Man accused of driving drunk, causing deadly crash in Los Lunas

VALENCIA COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — A driver is charged with vehicular homicide after Valencia County deputies say he drove drunk and crashed into a family’s car. According to the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office, 37-year-old Richard Gutierrez Molina was speeding behind the wheel of a pickup Sunday in Los Lunas when he when slammed head-on into a Honda Sedan on El Cerro Loop and Sandhill Road.

Veronica Ferraro died at the scene. Her 12- and 7-year-old children were rushed to UNM hospital. Deputies say Molina showed signs of impairment and admitted to drinking alcohol, but he refused field sobriety tests and a breath test. They say Molina has a history of DWI and other charges.
