Bernalillo Co. Sheriff demands change as repeat offenders continue getting arrested along Central

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A mad and fed up Bernalillo County Sheriff states that deputies are arresting criminals along the Route 66 corridor, only to see them back on the streets again shortly afterward. Multiple agencies, including the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), have launched Operation Route 66 to target crime on Central Avenue. Sheriff John Allen reports that his deputies have arrested many of the same individuals repeatedly, and these individuals remain free on the streets tonight. He is now demanding change.

“If you take out that habitual offender, your crime in that community will go down,” said Sheriff John Allen.

Since February, BCSO deputies have been involved in 640 cases connected to Operation Route 66. Of those cases, 40% were repeat offenders caught on outstanding warrants…
