Major water main break in Rio Rancho leads to early school dismissals

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) — Some schools in Rio Rancho are being dismissed early on Friday due to a water main break in the Western Hills and Lema area. Rio Rancho Fire and Rescue alongside city utility crews are on the scene.

According to Rio Rancho Public Schools, the break reduced the flow of water to Lincoln Middle School as well as Martin Luther King Jr. Elementary and Rio Rancho Elementary. Students at those schools were released early.

The public is asked to avoid the area. There is no estimate on when water services will be restored at this time. Water distribution stations have been set up at Station 1 at Southern and Golf Course as well as Station 2 at Unser and Cherry. KRQE will update this article with more information as it becomes available…
