Trending cooler, breezier across New Mexico this weekend

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Another morning of chilly temperatures in the Land of Enchantment. Albuquerque fell into the mid-30s while higher elevations bottomed out in the 20s. Today, clear skies will turn sunny across the state, with increasing clouds expected this evening for some areas. Temperatures are expected to rise into the upper 50s to be on the mild side before temperatures drop to be seasonable on Sunday in Albuquerque. This temperature drop will be caused by cooler air funneling into the state as a backdoor cold front moves in.

This backdoor cold front will arrive at eastern New Mexico later this morning and push further into the state when Sunday rolls around. Temperatures in eastern New Mexico will fall to be 10-15 degrees below normal on Sunday. Breezy conditions are expected this weekend as a result of the front. Cities around eastern New Mexico may see wind gusts range from 30-40 mph, while others around the Central Mountain Chain may encounter breezy winds into early Sunday morning. Breezy winds are once again expected on Monday and Tuesday next week along the Central Mountain Chain that will help temperatures rebound in east New Mexico.

Our next weathermaker is expected to move in on Sunday afternoon in southern Colorado and last through Monday morning. This weathermaker will bring sufficient moisture for light to moderate snowfall primarily into the Northern Mountains. In addition, portions of north, west and central New Mexico may see light rain and snow. After Monday, our next weathermaker looks to be on Wednesday and Thursday as we start December, which is slated to bring another round of rainfall and snowfall. Have a great weekend!…
