Man identified in last Sunday’s northeast Albuquerque home explosion

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Homeowners are still assessing damages and asking for answers after a northeast neighborhood home explosion last Sunday night. Investigators are trying to figure out how it happened.

One person was in the home when it exploded and was brought to the hospital with serious injuries that night. The man has been identified by UNM Hospital as 60-year-old Michael Nissen. His next-door neighbor, Eugene Quintana, described Michael as a “rebel.”

“He’d been living there for about 20 years,” Quintana said. “The house belongs to his sister. He was kind of an odd guy to be around sometimes.”

A spokesperson with UNMH said he was brought in for serious injuries and was then transported to a burn center in Phoenix. Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) said they have ruled out some causes of the explosion. Citing that they found no evidence of a drug lab, a gas leak, fireworks, or a bomb…
