BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. – The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center hosted a holiday party Sunday for the families of people who are in the jail.
Sunday’s holiday party at the Westside Community Center in Albuquerque gave inmates’ families a chance to celebrate the holiday season with loved ones. Santa Claus stopped by and gave out gifts. Kids also decorated cards for their parents and had some time to spread holiday joy.
“Maybe that’ll resonate inside the facility and it’ll bring their stress level down but we also have to look at the incarcerated [people], the stress of not being with their families. Maybe at these holiday events where they’re spending a lot of time eating, joking, laughing, if they can see that we are trying to help them impact their family in a positive way, that could maybe bring the stress level down,” MDC Warden Kai Smith said…
