ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico officials discussed three concepts on Thursday that could dramatically reshape the State Fairgrounds – or move the fair entirely – as the state begins weighing the future of Expo New Mexico.
Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and the State Fair District Board reviewed the early-stage proposals for the first time since their public release.
The three proposals
All three concepts call for major redevelopment of the southwest corner of the property at San Pedro Drive and Central Avenue – an area the state is already moving to acquire for $22 million.
Two of the proposals would keep the State Fair at its current location. Concepts One and Two focus on modernizing the fairgrounds and constructing new attractions at the corner of the site, including an entertainment venue, hotel, park and housing.
