Vigil held in Albuquerque for Homeless Persons Memorial Day

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Albuquerque city officials and the Homeless Coalition held a vigil in honor of Homeless Persons Memorial Day. The vigil took place on Wednesday at the ABQ Health Care for the Homeless Memorial Wall and was followed by a silent march to Civic Plaza.

Local leaders came out to say that more needs to be done to help those living on the streets. “Really, it’s just the acknowledgement that we can do better. We have to do better. What we’ve done so far isn’t enough, and to also recognize that the answer to doing better isn’t an easy one either,” said Albuquerque City Councilor Joaquín Baca.

According to the state Coalition to End Homelessness, nearly 30,000 people in New Mexico experienced homelessness or used homeless services last year…
