The National Park Service is asking for feedback on its plan in case of a fire at Bandelier National Monument. The park service is assessing two alternatives – a “No action” option, and an updated proposal to strategically thin the forest and promote fire education.
The “No Action” option means the park would use its previous plan under the 2005 Wildland Fire Management Program. This comes after the Cerro Pelado fire in 2022, and the major Las Conchas fire in 2011, which both affected Bandelier. The chosen plan will ultimately focus on protecting the public and critical infrastructure, as well as conserving the natural resources that make bandelier unique.
From Dec. 19 until February, you can submit your thoughts on the plans on the National Parks website…
