ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A prime piece of real estate between 1st and 2nd Street along Silver Ave. has sat empty for years. Recently, it became a temporary dog park after the city received complaints about trash and loitering. But the city and developers have bigger plans for the lot, hoping to create “Sendero Albuquerque”, an affordable housing option downtown. “This project will be about 141 units. Some of them will be one-bedroom, some two bedrooms. So it will kind of offer a variety of different options for people for housing,” said Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency Director Terry Brunner, City of Albuquerque.

The city has been working towards making this project a reality since 2020, but it’s been a tough road. The initial developers had proposed “The Downtowner”, but following the COVID-19 Pandemic, they struggled to secure funding for it.
Now, Sol Housing is taking over, hoping they can get the project done. “It’s a great opportunity there. There are only a few vacant lots left in downtown, and we’d like to use them for housing if we can,” said Brunner, going on to say, “It kind of fills in the last missing tooth on those properties that are around Alvarado station, the grocery store that’s downtown, and our parking garage and some other housing.”…
