City of Albuquerque mechanic accused of DWI after crashing Sun Van on I-40

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A mechanic with the City of Albuquerque transit department, also known as ABQ Ride, is facing charges for allegedly crashing a Sun Van after he ingested cocaine.

Police said Robert Candelaria was speeding when he crashed the Sun Van into a guardrail on Interstate 40 eastbound on Dec. 24. Candelaria told officers he was taking the vehicle for a test drive and said the crash was an accident; however, he later changed his story and said he intended to harm himself.

An officer on scene found cocaine inside the city van, and Candelaria admitted to using the drug before the crash, according to court documents…
