BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man has been federally charged after he allegedly pointed a gun at Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office deputies during a traffic stop that escalated into a shooting on Nov. 12.
When deputies pulled over the vehicle near Central Avenue and Wisconsin Street, they learned Jason Baca, 36, who was a passenger in the vehicle, had an outstanding felony warrant. During the arrest attempt, deputies—three of whom were federally deputized U.S. Marshals Service task force officers— also saw Baca concealing a gun, according to U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of New Mexico.

Officials said Baca resisted arrest, fled on foot, and pointed the gun toward deputies, prompting deputies to shoot their weapons. Baca was hit by the gunfire, taken into custody, and taken to get medical treatment. A loaded pistol was recovered from where the incident happened.
