ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Bernalillo County Metropolitan Court is launching a new program aimed at guiding newly arrested people with mental illness to treatment.
Up to $100k reward offered for information on New Mexico post office burglary
People charged with nonviolent felony and misdemeanor offenses, except DWI, may qualify for the program. According to the Administrative Office of the Courts, individuals who are booked into jail on qualifying charges will be screened to determine their eligibility for the program. Anyone who agrees to participate must be approved by the court, prosecutors and their defense attorney. Trained staff members will guide participants to community services and treatment, including assistance with food, employment and housing. Courts will dismiss charges when a person successfully completes a navigation plan that is developed for them.
A community launch event for the program will be held January 6, at 10:30 a.m. in the Metropolitan Courthouse 2nd floor jury room…
