Calmer Saturday ahead with above normal highs across New Mexico

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Happy Saturday morning. Did you look up at the sky? If you did, you likely caught a sight of our first supermoon of the year. A supermoon is just a full moon that appears bigger and brighter than normal as it is near perigee, or its closest approach to Earth in its orbit. Today’s full moon is more than 225,300 miles away; however, our next supermoon won’t be again until November and December.

Aside from the supermoon, many of us are waking up to clearer skies compared to Friday and cooler temperatures than yesterday morning. Another mild to unseasonably warm day is on tap throughout the state of New Mexico as temperatures are expected to rise in the 50s, 60s, and potentially low 70s. Overall, this Saturday will be on the calmer side compared to yesterday. Wind gusts on Friday were some of the highest in Guadalupe County.
