Six APS schools will require clear backpacks effective Tuesday

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Six schools in the Albuquerque Public Schools district will require students to bring only clear backpacks onto school property.

Effective Tuesday, students at Del Norte High School and five APS middle schools – Wilson, Kennedy, Hayes, Washington and Cleveland – can only bring a clear backpack to school. The district purchased thousands of clear backpacks they will distribute to students who don’t have them.

The six schools join Taylor Middle School in implementing the policy based on the results of surveys that students, families and staff participated in. Ultimately, it’s aimed at enhancing safety and security…
