Albuquerque city workers could get a one-time extra payment thanks to resolution

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – In the face of rising costs, Albuquerque city councilors are saying yes to a one-time deal that could give some city workers extra money on an upcoming paycheck.

City councilors butted heads last month trying to figure out where to spend leftover money in the city budget, but Monday night, they agreed on a measure that could send any unspent funds to city workers who aren’t getting a cost-of-living increase this year. “I made that promise, I heard other councilors making that promise, and so this is just a bill that gets us as close to that promise as we can possibly get,” said Tammy Fiebelkorn, Albuquerque city councilor for District 7.

Councilors unanimously passed the resolution Monday night, which sets up the potential for up to $2 million worth of funds to go toward city employees, in one-time payments. If the city ends up having the extra money to do it, city workers can expect up to 1% of their annual salary to come in a one-time payment sometime in the next couple of months. Someone making $40,000 a year could get a one-time payment of up to $400…
