Frigid Air Settles into New Mexico Saturday morning

Good Friday afternoon! Snow showers are still moving through parts of the state and metro area late morning and into the afternoon. It is possible that lingering moisture and cold air could spark additional light snow showers in the metro are this evening. Winter Weather Advisories and Winter Storm Warnings, from the National Weather Service, will expire 8 pm across the state. The Winter Storm Warnings are in place for gusty winds and snowfall that could cause periods of whiteout conditions in Colfax, Mora, Union and Harding Counties. After Friday, cloud coverage is expected to decrease in New Mexico with bitterly cold air settling into the state on Saturday morning.Saturday morning’s temperatures will be the coldest air we have seen so far this winter season with cities in western New Mexico falling below zero. The National Weather Service has a Cold Weather Advisory in place for sections of western and southwestern New Mexico. This will be for frigid wind chills falling into the single digits and below zero. That advisory will go into effect at 11 pm and will last through 8 a.m. After a cold morning Saturday’s high temperatures are expected to near normal or falling below normal.

A new pattern will be emerging after the two winter storm systems that swept through the state this week. Our weather pattern will be dry and sunny for most. Throughout the weekend a gradual warm up will take shape into early next week. In Albuquerque high temperatures are expected to rebound back into the 50s with sunshine and high-level clouds. By next Tuesday a few cities around New Mexico could see mild temperatures once again with highs roughly 5 -10 degrees above normal…
