Warmer weather before rain, snow and wind arrive

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – Cloudier skies with mostly light winds and dry conditions have allowed for the mixing of the air at the surface with yesterday’s warmth not escaping to space as much this morning as yesterday morning.

Air temperatures in the north are starting off in the upper single digits while most are ranging from the high teens to the 20s from I-40 to the north, while areas to the south are mostly ranging from the upper 20s to the 30s with the mildest air being in far-southern areas or in the far-Northeast Plains.

Despite the increase in clouds, warmer-than-normal conditions are set to become even more widespread this afternoon because of stronger west-northwesterly winds to go up, over, and down the southeast-sloped mountain faces, sinking, compressing, drying, & spreading a warming process at the surface as a result. Afternoon temperatures will mostly be ranging from the upper 40s to 60s from north to south from high to low elevation as high pressure aloft to the south migrating to the east will allow for the warmer-than-normal air…
