I-40 east and westbound between Louisiana and Juan Tabo closed in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – I-40 east and westbound between Louisiana and Juan Tabo has been closed due to police activity because of an armed person in the area. North and southbound Eubank from Copper to Hotel Circle has been closed as well.

The Albuquerque Police Department said that around 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, they received a call about a vehicle driving dangerously on I-40 near Eubank when it sideswiped another vehicle. They said the suspect fled the scene, but officers later found him in between the eastbound and westbound lanes. He appeared to be drunk and armed with a handgun. Police said at one point, he even fired the gun at a police drone.

APD said they are in contact with the suspect, but he has not surrendered. “I understand people are pretty frustrated trying to drive through and to get where they are going. I know this is an inconvenience, but officers had to block off this entire area and continue to block it off to keep people safe,” said APD Communications Director Gilbert Gallegos…
