ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A new program launched Tuesday by the City of Albuquerque will allow businesses along Central Ave. to apply for grants to repaint their exteriors. All in an effort to aesthetically clean up Route 66 ahead of the Centennial. “We’ll look at their application and make sure the mural is appropriate, and the paint job is appropriate, and fits in with the neighborhood character and is an additive to those businesses,” City of Albuquerque Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency Director Terry Brunner said.
The city hopes to help dozens of businesses along Central Ave. clean up their walls to help draw more people to stop who might be visiting for the Centennial. “We hope to get at least a dozen to do it,” Brunner said. “It shouldn’t be a hard application, but we know there’s businesses in need of a refresh and a new coat of paint.”
Dawn Vatoseow with Lindy’s Diner is one business owner getting ready to apply for the grant after seeing it come through Monday night. “I would absolutely be interested in putting a mural, something to do with Route 66 and the history, and fresh paint would look really nice,” Vatoseow said…
