Rio Rancho prepares to break ground on first new fire station in 15 years

RIO RANCHO, N.M. (KRQE) – The City of Rio Rancho is preparing to break ground on a new fire station in the southern portion of the city. Station 8 will be located at the corner of Cabezon and Veranda Road, becoming the first new fire station in the city in 15 years.

Fire Chief James Wenzel said the goal with this new station is to keep up with the fast growing residential and commercial development in the city, “As the city keeps adding population and as homes keep coming in and we’re seeing that growth we have to also remember to grow the fire department and this is just a reflection of that So we’re growing in pace with the city.”

Wenzel continued saying, “As the city grows, we want to introduce more firefighters, more fire stations, which allow us to increase that capability and that expectation that the community has for the fire department.”…
