Family owned jewelry business in Albuquerque is closing its doors after three generations

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A staple family-run storefront in Albuquerque is closing its doors after nearly 100 years in business. Butterfield Jewelers made the announcement last week on their social media, after operating for 97 years, and has been a staple in Albuquerque since 1945. The owners said they’re retiring, and are currently having a liquidation sale, and will remain open until everything is sold.

“I thought, oh my gosh, I’ve got to get in there right now to see them and buy something,” Trish Homburg said.

The owners said people have been coming in nonstop. It’s a mix of loyal customers and new folks seeing big sale signs. “The number of people that have come through, hearing their stories,” Butterfield Jewelers co-owner Amy Butterfield said. “I had a customer yesterday, she bought her high school class ring on Central, and now they’ve bought engagement rings and jewelry for their children. So there’s such a long line.”…
