NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – We are starting Sunday with clear skies compared to the clouds that moved into Albuquerque throughout Saturday. Temperatures around the state have bottomed out in the teens, 20s, 30s, 40s, and 50s so far this morning. Sunnier skies are expected to take hold of a majority of the state while temperatures warm up to the upper 50s, 60s, and 70s this afternoon. This trend of unseasonably warm weather will last through most of the second week of February, where many locations will be 5-20 degrees warmer than normal. On Monday afternoon, high temperatures could approach record warmth territory in select locations like Gallup, Grants, and possibly Tucumcari.

Aside from yesterday’s light rain through central and southern New Mexico, our stretch of drier weather sticks around for the first two days. Tomorrow afternoon, there is an elevated and critical fire risk in eastern New Mexico with low relative humidity, gusty winds possibly surpassing 30mph, along with unseasonably warm temperatures. The National Weather Service will issue a Fire Watch for parts of Torrance, Guadalupe, Debaca, San Miguel, Colfax, Mora Counties and other counties east along the Texas and New Mexico state line. This will go into effect at 11 am and last until 6 pm. It is highly discouraged to burn any materials because fires could easily start and rapidly spread.
Also, on late Monday night, a backdoor cold front will slide into the eastern half of the state, bringing cooler, but mild temperatures to eastern New Mexico on Tuesday with breezy winds with it. Later in the week, we are still tracking another weathermaker in the forecast that could bring rain and snow back to the Land of Enchantment. Wednesday through Friday, mountain snowfall is forecasted for the Jemez Mountains in southern Colorado. A slight chance for light rain is also possible on Tuesday in Eddy and Lea counties. Aside from that we are trending unseasonably warm. Have a great Sunday!…
