Plans completed for 4th Street road diet narrowing project in the North Valley

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A section of Fourth Street that is just under a mile in the North Valley is getting ready for a makeover. The stretch from Menaul Blvd. to Candelaria Rd. is part of this narrowing project, and the plan is now nearing completion. It will bring the four lanes down to two, with one in each direction. The city will restripe to widen the lanes, make a center turn lane, and add street parking.

“There are parking options available, but you have to walk a good distance,” Sunday Service Motor Service Owner Kevin Anderson said. “That’s something both us and our neighbors deal with on a daily basis.”

Albuquerque District 2 Councilor Joaquín Baca said there were studies done, and he believes traffic will actually move faster with the road diet. “Right now, because I’ve driven this, during peak hours, people trying to turn left or right into businesses or housing stop up the traffic, and it jams up quite a bit,” Councilor Baca said. “With designated turn lanes, the traffic should keep flowing while people make turns.”…
