Albuquerque teen sentenced for role in deadly botched robbery

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – One of the teens involved in a botched robbery that resulted in the death of a 14-year-old was in court for sentencing Wednesday.

Albuquerque police say a group of teenagers attempted to rob a couple while they sat in their vehicle at an apartment complex off Tramway, north of I-40 in Albuquerque. Police say two suspects, 15-year-old Jeriah Salas, along with 14-year-old Alonzo Sanderson walked up to the car and brandished firearms. Salas shot at the back of the vehicle. The woman’s husband shot back at the teens, striking Sanderson and killing him.

Salas entered a plea of no contest to firing from a motor vehicle with no great bodily harm and conspiracy to commit armed robbery. Judge William Parnall accepted the plea and put him in the custody of the Youth Diagnostics and Development until he is 21…
