New Mexico man sentenced for fleeing from police in stolen vehicle

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man is going to prison for leading police on a high-speed chase last year. In May 2025, Darrell McGrew fled from Bernalillo County deputies in a stolen car. After swerving through traffic and running cars off the road, McGrew eventually lost control in Bosque Farms, where deputies used a PIT maneuver to get him to stop.

The sentencing on Thursday came after McGrew was recently rebooked for beating another Metropolitan Detention Center inmate unconscious. Judge Lucy Solimon sentenced McGrew to nine years in the New Mexico Department of Corrections.
