VIDEO: Woman tells Albuquerque police that her neighbor shot her dog

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man was arrested after a neighbor said he shot her Chihuahua in the face. The dog survived, but it turns out the suspected shooter had been convicted of shooting a neighborhood pet before.

Santa Fe police officer accused of driving drunk to work

It was December 14, 2025, and a woman seen on video was talking about a neighbor in her apartment complex near San Mateo Blvd. and Zuni Rd. She told Albuquerque police that she took her Chihuahua outside to relieve itself and that her neighbor shot her dog. She told police that the neighbor is Jonathan Griego. Police later determined that the gun was a BB gun. The woman led police inside her apartment to check out the wounded animal, with a BB apparently stuck in its swollen snout.

Officers tried to speak to Griego, but he was not home. Investigators later learned that this is not the first time he’s been in trouble for hurting an animal. In 2021, Griego pleaded guilty to animal cruelty after shooting and killing a cat at a different apartment complex where he lived at the time, then throwing the cat’s body in a trash can, all in front of his three-year-old son. Now he’s facing a new charge of extreme cruelty to animals.

Griego was later arrested. Court records show he remains out of jail and has a preliminary hearing next week…
