City of Albuquerque shares more about initial results of downtown parking study

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Downtown Albuquerque has many places to park, but still some drivers complain that it is hard to find a spot. Now a year into a study to improve parking, the city said it has come up with some ideas. “There are parking structures, metered parking, but still, there seems to be a shortage of parking down here,” said the Owner of Lindy’s Diner, Steve Vatoseow.

Vatoseow said his customers regularly tell him they have trouble finding a parking spot near his restaurant. Others worry about safety. “More security would make people feel safer about coming downtown, and that would help business tremendously,” said Vatoseow.

The city is now looking at ways to fix that. The Metropolitan Redevelopment Agency (MRA) has completed an initial draft studying downtown parking. Right now, there are more than 21,000 parking spots available in downtown, but the study found that a lot of people don’t know where to park…
