Burglary suspect who was shot by business owner will remain behind bars

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A man who was shot and wounded, while police say he was breaking into an Albuquerque business, will remain behind bars. Police say around 4 a.m. on Sunday, Joseph Montoya broke into Cardboard Collectors and then returned with another suspect over an hour later.

Police said that during the second burglary, the owner of a neighboring business intervened and shot Montoya, but both suspects took off. Montoya later showed up at a hospital claiming he was accidentally shot, but detectives were able to link him to the burglary. The neighboring business owner who shot Montoya is not facing any charges…
