Albuquerque neighborhood fixes flooding problem by renovating local landscape

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – People living in a Northeast Albuquerque neighborhood have taken it upon themselves to fix a flooding problem by helping create their own stormwater infrastructure.

Margaret Keller and a few of her neighbors have spent years maintaining and cleaning up a piece of property on the corner of Morningside and Avenida del Sol. “We started noticing the little triangle in about 2022,” said Keller.

Keller said that while the space wasn’t an eyesore, it wasn’t practical either. Especially on rainy days. “It had virtually no vegetation at all, but we did notice it had curb cuts and therefore there was some water running through it,” said Keller. “I watched it at several different corners, and it covered the street.”…
