New Mexico ALPR bill awaits governor’s decision

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New rules for automated license plate readers are now awaiting a decision from the governor, following 4 Investigates’ report revealing out-of-state agencies searched New Mexico’s database for immigration enforcement.

The cameras, mounted on light poles, patrol cars and along major roadways, capture time-stamped images of vehicles and store detailed location data. That data can reveal where a vehicle has traveled, how often, and at what times — creating a digital trail of people’s movements.
