FLORENCE, S.C. (WBTW) — Federal prosecutors will seek the death penalty against a Marion man accused of killing a Pee Dee paramedic during a violent March 2024 crime spree, according to a court filing.
Jaremy Smith is already serving a life sentence for killing New Mexico State Police officer Justin Hare. He was indicted by a grand jury last month in the death of Phonesia Machado-Fore, whom he’s accused of killing “execution style.”
The grand jury initially indicted Smith on charges including murder, motor vehicle theft, kidnapping, unlawful transport of firearms, and receiving stolen firearms. A superseding indictment filed on Tuesday shows he was also federally charged with kidnapping resulting in death, carjacking resulting in death, using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence in a manner that constitutes murder, felon in possession of firearms, and possession of stolen firearms…
