ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – At The New Mexico State Penitentiary in Santa Fe in 1980 was one of the most violent prison riots in U.S. history. Resulting in 33 deaths and many more injuries, this riot lives in infamy.
This week on New Mexico Strange, KRQE’s Chad Brummett and Stephanie Chavez are joined by the owner of The Santa Fe VIP, Victor Romero, to talk about the riot and the history behind it, covering why the riots started, how they became so violent, and the tools the prisoners took advantage of from the construction being done on the prison.
Victor Romero is the owner of The Santa Fe VIP, which showcases the ‘VIP’ events and nightlife of Santa Fe. You can learn more about Victor Romero and The Santa Fe VIP by clicking here…
