Valencia County loses $2M to scam during new hospital construction

VALENCIA COUNTY, N.M. – Valencia County is out millions after an employee fell for a scam involving a construction contractor.

A scammer reportedly posed as Bradbury Stamm Construction, the contractor for the new Valencia County Hospital in Los Lunas. The county paid over $2 million before discovering the fraud.

The county contacted their bank, the state auditor and legal authorities immediately after realizing the scam. A third-party investigation was conducted to determine how it happened and prevent future occurrences…
