ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – It was a day of giving back as the community came to support a local nonprofit as they mailed out hundreds of care packages to service members overseas. Rio Grande Valley Blue Star Mothers is an organization that sends care packages and provides support to active duty and deployed military members.
Organizers and volunteers spent this weekend packing for service members, reaching their goal of 200 boxes. Throughout the year, organizers collect and pack up items such as hygiene products, snacks, and gifts from the Land of Enchantment, like Hatch green chile and salsa.
“Some of our packages go where there is not easy accessibility to a commissary or, you know, a place to go buy snacks or treats or socks or mouthwash or just little things like that, so we just try to cover all the basics,” says Patty Paul, media/public relations with Blue Star Mothers…
