19-Year-Old Killed in Road Rage Shooting After Driver ‘Brake-Checks’ Him, Police Say

Albuquerque, New Mexico — A tragic road rage incident has left a 19-year-old dead after a confrontation between two drivers escalated into gunfire in broad daylight. Authorities say the victim was simply on his way to pick up his mother when the encounter turned deadly.

Deadly confrontation unfolds on city road

Police say the incident began around 1:45 p.m. along San Mateo Boulevard in northeast Albuquerque. According to investigators, a silver Ford Mustang — allegedly driven by Cecilio Lopez — made a sudden U-turn and pulled directly into the path of a gray Nissan Sentra driven by 19-year-old Roman Valenciano.

Surveillance footage and witness accounts indicate the Mustang driver then repeatedly “brake-checked” the victim’s vehicle and blocked the roadway, escalating tensions as both vehicles continued moving south.

Authorities say the suspect intentionally interfered with the victim’s driving before the situation turned violent.
