Migrants sealed inside gas tank were ‘afraid for their lives’

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) – A U.S. Border Patrol canine might have saved the lives of two Mexican migrants who reported having difficulty breathing inside the gas tank of a moving Chevrolet Silverado.

Border agents on Monday pulled Ernesto Ramirez Alto and Miguel Santiago Antonio from the empty external gas tank of the pickup during an inspection at a checkpoint along Interstate 25 north of Laredo, Texas.

Drones guiding smugglers from across the border

A dog trained to sniff out drugs and other contraband alerted its handler to anomalies to the Silverado’s external fuel tank while another agent interviewed driver Jose Javier Salinas.

Court records show the migrants told investigators they entered the United States illegally aided by members of a human smuggling organization in Mexico. They said the smugglers placed them inside the gas tank…
