An active weather weekend is upon us as we kick off the second weekend of April. Showers and storms are on the board for today and tomorrow as two features – a disturbance over SE Colorado/Oklahoma Panhandle/SW Kansas and a Pacific low off the coast of central California will work together to help spark off this rain potential. Albuquerque rain chances start at noon today and will continue into the rest of Saturday. Not much has changed in the forecast between today and tomorrow in terms of timing for rain, but the severe threat has increased spatially for eastern New Mexico Saturday.

As showers and storms get going both Friday afternoon/evening and Saturday afternoon/evening, the risk of severe weather will be at the forefront for those on the eastern side of the state. Threats for both days have not changed – any one storm could produce strong winds, large hail, downpours, and frequent lightning are all on the table.
