Corrales leaders consider putting ‘no parking’ signs on neighborhood streets

CORRALES, N.M. (KRQE) – The shops and restaurants in Corrales have become popular spots here in the metro. But this New Mexico village is now considering a major parking change to keep a flood of cars from crowding into neighborhoods.

The slower pace of life in Corrales has also recently been confronted with a major parking battle between visitors and neighbors, so much so that the village council is now considering new “no parking areas” with signs on residential streets near Corrales Road businesses. It comes as some feel there’s been a spike in cars blocking access to homes. “It seems like that what’s kind of happened where businesses have exceeded their boundaries and use,” said Jeff Lopez, a Corrales resident.

He is one of those neighbors looking for changes in parking. “Historically, the village has failed to enforce the existing land use regulations throughout that zoning area, parking, noise, traffic,” said Lopez. Sandia Bar owner Troy Howard said he doesn’t want more “no parking” signs. “I think before they make any changes. I think they come up with a solution to it. We have parking lots that are available that can be used as parking,” said Howard…
