Police release initial findings on deadly BCSO sergeant crash

RIO RANCHO, N.M. — Police released their findings from an investigation into a crash that left a Bernalillo County sergeant dead in February.

A Rio Rancho Police Department investigation claims Miguel Orlando Perez was traveling at 64 mph in his semi-truck when he struck and killed BCSO Sgt. Michael Schlattman on westbound Interstate 40, near the Carnuel exit.

Investigators found Perez was a valid Class A commercial driver’s license at the time. However, they claim he didn’t brake before the collision and cited his “inattention” as a contributing factor in the crash…
