RIO RANCHO — An officer and their family’s worst day is when an officer is killed on the job.
The reminder of that reality was present May 14 at the annual Rio Rancho Police Department Fallen Officer Memorial in Veterans Monument Park on Pinetree Road.
“It is a stark reality that police officers regularly face danger and place themselves at risk to ensure safety and well-being of those we gladly serve,” Lt. Dan Fleming said. “Police officers and their family are a unique group supported by their families. They report to duty with an understanding of the danger they face and the sorrowful impact that any one moment could take and have on a family. Some ask why why someone chooses a career path amidst the dangers. It has the simple answer. It’s for those sweet moments when we get a win.”…
