DC man facing federal charges, accused of robbing postal worker

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A D.C. man is facing federal charges after a U.S. postal worker was the victim of an armed robbery in January.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) said that 26-year-old Paris Simmons is accused of threatening a postal worker in D.C. and stealing the victim’s postal arrow key. This key gives access to mailboxes, mail collection boxes and apartment buildings — the USAO said that it can also be used in financial crimes such as bank fraud, check fraud or identity theft.

According to prosecutors, around 4:55 p.m. on Jan. 12, 2026, Simmons parked his car near 16th and Hamlin Street NW. He got out and waited on the sidewalk. A couple of minutes later, a carrier with the U.S. Postal Service turned onto 16th Street from Hamlin Street.

Simmons is accused of then walking up behind the postal carrier and shoving something into their back. The indictment states that Simmons then threatened to shoot the victim, demanding they hand over their postal arrow key…
