WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — It’s the final weekend of extended curfew zones in D.C. as Mayor Bowser’s emergency order expires Saturday night.But it’s also the start of summer activities to keep kids out of trouble. For the fifth year, Friday nights mean ‘Late Night Hype’ in the District.Friday night, hundreds of teens aged 13 to 18 gathered at Ridge Road Community Center.
There was music all night long, video games, sports on big screens, and activities to make shea butter, get henna, haircuts, and braiding. There were also some cool art projects and spray-painting.
“We’ve learned from our teenagers. You can see they’re showing up. This is their party,” said Thennie Freeman, director of the D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation.
