Illinois Refuses National Guard Deployment to D.C., Drawing Praise From Former Military Leaders

As several Democratic governors sent National Guard troops to Washington, D.C. ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebrations, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker refused to deploy troops, drawing praise from a group of former senior military leaders.

Nineteen retired defense officials and high-ranking military officers commended Pritzker for keeping the Illinois National Guard out of the nation’s capital, where Guard troops have maintained a visible presence for more than a year.
