Road closures and metro shutdowns set to test Montgomery County commuters this summer

Montgomery County commuters may need extra patience this summer as major transportation projects affect both road and transit travel across the county.

Beginning July 6 through Sept. 6, Metro’s Red Line will undergo a major construction project that will close the Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center and Bethesda stations. During the shutdown, trains will not operate between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights.

The project includes construction of a new mezzanine at Bethesda station to connect Metrorail with the future Purple Line, as well as maintenance and infrastructure repairs at the affected stations…
