An 18-year-old Washington, D.C., resident has been charged after prosecutors say he sexually assaulted a woman aboard a New York City subway train while she was traveling with four children.
The suspect, identified as Ari Shtein, surrendered to authorities on Wednesday and was arrested in connection with the alleged incident, which occurred on June 28, 2026, aboard a northbound R train in Manhattan.

According to the New York Police Department (NYPD) and court documents, the alleged assault happened at approximately 3 p.m. as the train was near the West 28th Street–Broadway subway station in the Chelsea neighborhood of Manhattan.
