DC resident to be deported after prison sentence for firing gun out of apartment window: USAO

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — A 27-year-old D.C. resident was sentenced on Thursday to almost two years in prison for firing a machine gun out of his apartment in Southeast D.C. in 2025. Officials said that he will be deported after his prison sentence.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office (USAO) for the District of Columbia said that Kelvin Leon pleaded guilty in March to one count of possession of a machine gun and one count of endangerment with a firearm.

Court documents state that on July 24, 2025, Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) members responded to a home at 2400 Marion Barry Ave. in Southeast after someone anonymously reported that a man had fired a gun out of an apartment window.
