BRYANS ROAD, Md. — Tucked away along Marshall Hall Road are the remains of the old Marshall Hall mansion, sitting behind a barbed-wire fence in Piscataway Park with brick walls standing among the trees and vines.

There is no roof. No doors. No furniture or signs of the families who once lived inside. At first glance, it looks abandoned. But Marshall Hall isn’t simply an abandoned mansion.

Its story stretches from the Piscataway people and colonial Maryland to the height of the amusement park era, with a fire and a truck crash eventually leaving behind the ruins visitors see today.
