FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – A Franklin County man, who is incarcerated in Maryland, will be extradited back to face charges in Virginia stemming from a narcotics investigation that began early 2026, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies say 48-year-old John Byoung Kim was charged with:
- One felony count of Selling, Distribution, etc. of Schedule I/II Controlled Substances
- One felony count of Selling, Distributing Marijuana
- Four felony counts of Abuse and Neglect of Children
A drug inquiry was launched against Kim by the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division April 28, 2026, he was wanted on outstanding criminal charges out of another state. Investigators said they got a search warrant for Kim’s residence on Lucy Wade Road in Franklin County.
As the investigation unfolded, the sheriff’s office said evidence developed indicating the presence of contraband inside his home, according to the office.
Deputies also said another search warrant for narcotics was obtained and executed at Kim’s place; the search resulted in the confiscation of:
- Approximately 25 grams of cocaine
- Methamphetamine
- Methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA)
- Methylphenidate
- Schedule I/II pills
- Approximately 2,691.59 grams of marijuana
- Drug packaging materials
- U.S. fiat cash
- A 2017 Ford truck
