FLINT, Mich.—Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley tells Mid-Michigan NOW he’s heading to Washington D.C. on Wednesday September 16 for a second visit with the Special Master overseeing the Flint Water Crisis settlement.
The Special Master was court appointed by Judge Levy from the 85th U.S. District Court. Deborah Greenspan manages the distribution process for the more than $626 million settlement fund. Her office released a payment schedule in July. But Mayor Neeley feels the checks aren’t arriving to residents fast enough. He’s hoping a face-to-face conversation will change that and move things along quicker.
“The City of Flint has no control over the settlement money, so we are advocating on behalf of the residents because there’s a level of frustration on the length of time this is taking,” said Mayor Sheldon Neeley. “What definitely needs to happen now is these dollars need to be in the hands of the residents. There are no active lead service lines inside the City of Flint. We have done and completed that task. The EPA has released us from the emergency as well as EGLE. We have completed those tasks. Now people deserve to have the payments and we are pushing hard. We are fighting for them.”…
